Skansen is the world’s oldest open-air museum, founded in 1891. It is located in Stockholm, Sweden.
Here you stroll through our wonderful park and travel the route of historic Sweden, from farmsteads to 18th century mansions meeting characters in period costumes. There is a lively programme of activities including singing and dancing in the summer, and Christmas markets and concerts at Seglora Church in winter.
Skansen is also home to wild Nordic animals such as moose, raindeers, lynxes, wolverines, seals and otters. A number of historically interesting rare breeds are also included in conservation projects. They are part of our agricultural heritage, showing how important animals were to the households of the past.
At Skansen, you can discover Sweden’s history and find out how Swedes once lived according to the changing seasons, through the customs and traditions, work, celebrations, and everyday life of times gone by.
This is also a place where festive occasions are celebrated throughout the year. The lively programme of activities includes singing, dancing and concerts in the summer, and Christmas markets in the winter with dancing around the Christmas tree and concerts at Seglora Church.
And all this is included in the same entrance ticket!
If desired, your groups can engage our own Skansen guide or come with an own guide.
